THE EDINBURGH MILITARY TATTOO

Nice people do nice things, don’t you think? Take last night as an example. Some months ago we were introduced by a mutual friend to a delightful lady called Valerie who came out to Claremont for a visit and followed that up with a further visit with her beautiful daughter, Jo, for some photographs. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when we received in the mail invitations to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo as guests of Major Gen David McDowall MBE, General Officer Commanding 2nd Division (Scotland and North of England) and Governor of Edinburgh Castle. Supper in the Officers Mess, followed by a walk down to the esplanade and then up to the GOC’s box then some light refreshments to round the evening of. Of course, as you may already have guessed, Valerie is David’s wife and it was a wonderful evening where we met some extremely entertaining people.
Last night was perhaps the wettest of the year but for some strange reason, as Faye pointed out, it seemed to lend a certain atmosphere to the event though that was easy for us being under cover in our box unlike the thousands of spectators suffering out in the open and the poor performers who performed with amazing professionalism under the conditions. The highlight for us was the performance of Top Secret Drum Corps
one of the world's most sensational percussion groups and if you ever get a chance to see them don’t miss it.
At the start of the Tattoo we were astonished to have a flypast, despite the very low cloud level, by a Viscount from the Royal Air force. This was in honour of King George Tupou V of Tonga who was guest of honour at the Tattoo and in the royal box next door to us.

However, and up until the day unbeknown to us, this was David’s last day in the British Army and it had long been his ambition to be being the lone piper at the end of the Tattoo
An ambition that he achieved in spectacular fashion in front of an audience of thousands and to rapturous applause. One small fact that I discovered this morning is that David is (was) the only general in the today's British Army to have started his career in the ranks rising from humble private to general.

VICTORIA'S SUMMER

Yes, I know it taken so much longer than expected but the wait will be worth while. I am talking about our Victoria's Summer book whcih will be getting printed in the next couple of weeks. hard back, 60 pages in full colour on 210gsm silk paper. Looks great. It will be a Limited Edition publication and will be signed, numbered and dated and each copy will come with a complimentary 12" print from the book.

SOME KIND WORDS FROM THE MAUNSEL WORKSHOP

Dear Trevor and Faye,

I would just like to take a few moments to thank you for the workshop yesterday. Both of you are great people to be around, and the integrity with which you conduct yourselves sets you apart from most. Both Lozie and Christiane were great, and very different as you mentioned. Christane's quiet grace and poise, and I thought Lozie's attitude was just fantastic, she is one of those people that "shines from the inside"! The other delegates also made the day for me, what a lovely group of genuine people.

I have, for me anyway, some great shots although one thing that Trevor said has stayed with me. Even if I had no shots of worth at all, the day was one of those that was "good for the soul".

Thanks again to both of you.

Many thanks for an excellent day at Maunsel House on Tuesday, it's
great to see your images up on the site and think that I was these also.
I learnt a lot during the day and the location was great. You both
have a great way of teaching and I'm looking forward to the next time
I can work with you again.

Thank you very much for all your excellent help yesterday - I probably learnt as much what didn't work as what does - which is great.

I suspect you have the patience of saints.

The girls were excellent and not at all what I was expecting as it was my first time working with models - definitely easier than actual nude clients !!

You will be seeing me again - not sure if for boudoir as I think I have found my preference in fine art type style - so I will just have to drive up to you !!

Again thanks to both of you - a pleasure meeting you and I hope you had a bit of fun as well

Hi Trevor and Faye

Many many thanks for a wonderful day....time just seemed to fly by...you have unlocked a creative side of me that I didn't think I had. I will definately love to come to one of you other workshops. The two of you and the models are so professional in the way you run the course and Maunsel House is a treasure trove of a venue.

I have attached an image of Christiane which I have combined with an image of the doves in flight...hope you like it!

A MAJOR WORKSHOP

It's looking very hopeful and positive for a major workshop to be held in amazing studios in Leicester, a converted shoe factory where we have worked before, supported by BOWENS, AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER, CALUMET and a couple of others who are still to confirm. There will be several models, BOWENS will be supplying a wide variety of kit which we will be demonstrating and delegates will have the opportunity to use in a live shoot. Still working out the details but for def it will be the Sunday 1st of November 09.
